Wrong artist info and artist background, can't reset Zune DB.
Zune software has assigned the wrong artist to some of my artists and the wrong background art appears. I used to be able to fix this by deleted the Zune database file, but now that doesn't work. I deleted the DB file and uninstalled Zune, but it's still the same. Any suggestions?

The software has likely linked it to the wrong artist in the marketplace database. 1) Edit the album in zune software and make sure the data is correct, especially the song and album artists. Then 2) do a find album info, and link it to the correct album manually.
I tried to used "Find Album Info" but it made no difference.
if you found the correct album and linked it, then the marketplace is linking wrong. (it's rare, but does happen occasionally.) If you could not find the right album, then of course you cannot link...
I found the album and selected it, but the artist background is still blank or incorrect. It doesn't recognise the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for example, who are well known and on the marketplace.
I used to be able to just delete the DB file if Zune didn't recognised or misidentified an artist, but now it doesn't work. It's like they're saving the data online or something.

Deleting the zune database file never fixed that. If you think it did, it was actually something else. The market place linkage is metadata added to the mp3 files themselves. Not all artists have data, so blank would be the result. But the wrong background is either a 'wrong' link or wrong data in the marketplace (rare but it has happened.)
Ok, I got the problem partly fixed. I found that if there's an artist that's not being identified, I can fix it by deleting the tags from the files completely.
However, I still have a problem where sometimes, if I click "More About This Artist", I get "Error. This Item Is No Longer Available at the Zune Marketplace", even though the artist does exist on the marketplace.

If you delete all the tags without replacing them, I have no idea what the software will do... so errors are not at all surprising.
Frederick, all you need to do is go to the file in my docs (demo.mp3), go to properties, go to summery, click advanced, and fill in the proper fields with the proper info.
the directory may be different if you are not using XP but its still the same basic directory.

No! Doing it that way is risky. windows cannot write properly formatted ID3v3 tag data. Do it in zune, or download mp3tag.
its only risky if you don't know what your doing, i have been systematically fixing my 20-something gigs of music that way with very little problems.
If you do the right way very little will turn into none. seriously, editing file properties will eventually create a problem on at least some of your files. you will get weird results, like missing tracks, crazy metadata on the device, etc. It has nothing to do with 'knowing what you are doing' as it is a data format issue that you cannot control by typing left handed in italics on odd calendar days...

i want you to at least go to that directory and look at what it is. there is nothing like what you are thinking, just fields for things like track number, artist, album, song and stuff like that.

The Zune software seems to just rebuild them on it's own. It works fine for artists who were never identified.
The problem is, I think, that some of my artists are linked to the American marketplace (I had a Zune before it went worldwide). When Australia got marketplace, it started kicking up errors.

I have seen many, many issues caused by that, and solved by correcting the tag format... on the old zune.net support forums, and continued onto the MS Answers forums.

fair enough. although its the same things that all those music cleaning programs change, so the only problems would be in human error.
