Default My Current Project

Google Code Project: http://code.google.com/p/geomatrixzune/
Source Repository: http://code.google.com/p/geomatrixzune/source/browse/

Project released under the: GNU GPL v3 License

Complete:
Main Menu
Level Select Menu
Help Option - Will provide help for the level and will also allow you to choose a new level/return to menu during a game.

In Progress:
Basic Gameplay Functionality

My current project, currently titled GeoMatrix, is a puzzle game.

Basically you must move a piece of energy from one node to every other one on the map. However, you may only move to each node once and may only move to adjacent nodes.

I hope to release this app for the Zune (Possibly Windows Phone), Android and iOS. As I have a Zune the original development is being done on the Zune.

I am planning on adding lots of fun features to this game including a level designer, special effects and lots more. However, right now the main focus is on the basic functionality of the app.

This is a long way away from being finished, but I promise to upload something once I get it all working.

The reason I am posting this now instead of later is for two reasons. First, I want suggestions. If you have any ideas that would make this better than let me know! Second, the app development front for the Zune has been a little (*cough*) dead. As long as my Zune is running I will be making apps for it.

I will be updating this post as I make progress.

IMPORTANT: As the source is released but the app is not fully working I hold no responsibility if you kill your Zune by running the source. While I will only commit working versions I can not confirm that you have done everything right.

Also, if you test and find something you don't like/doesn't work please file a bug report! This way I know when something doesn't work. You can file a bug report here: http://code.google.com/p/geomatrixzune/issues/list.

Wow, very nice. I will enjoy this in Zune, but most likely more on my Android. I'll be sure to buy it from the marketplace.

This might intrigue a few people: http://code.google.com/p/geomatrixzune/source/browse/. I will try to update this whenever I add something cool.

This is not finished yet and I would not recommend this unless you are a developer and want to look at some of the code. Or, for some reason, you really want to play with a very basic framework.

I have decided to release the Zune version as open source and, should it turn into a Android / IOS app it will likely include a lot more than the Zune version. What can I say, the Zune is getting old...

Anyway, have fun with that link. Most things except the actual gameplay are working as of my writing of this post.

Also, if anyone wants to contribute feel free to tell me.

As a side note: the way XNA handles XML is interesting to me.

I can't give a date. This is a while off as it is still just me. I am trying to port what I learn in Java and C++ to C# (which I am learning as I go). As my professor/teacher has never used C# he is not much help and most of my coding friends are developing for Android etc. As such I'm on my own for this project.

Not just that, but I have 4-5 other projects in progress at any one time.

It will get done when it is done.

However, if anyone wants to advance the code by downloading the Source through the SVN I would not mind. That would speed up the process a bit. Also, once I get the level XML data set if a few members of the community want to write some fun levels that would be fun as well.

I will of course, keep you updated on what is going on. For a list of all updates to the project you can check out the Google Code Update tab on the Google Code site.

C# is basically MS making their own version of Java, so if you know both Java and C++ it should make it pretty easy to learn C#, actually.

Yes, I have picked that up. I have actually stopped working on the project at the moment, instead I am focusing on the engine. I am rewriting it completely right now. The way I had it written was difficult (if not impossible) to do what I wanted, thus I am starting mostly from scratch (or restarting if you so choose).

As the project is Open Source and I am writing the engine part to be easily reused (I plan to make a Zune Guitar/Bass Tab engine). Anyway, if you find the engine useful than feel free to use.

I'm learning a few new things about C#, but yes, it is pretty much Java (not sure why they just didn't use it in the first place).

Do you have access to devices for testing Android, WP7, and iOS versions?

My school has a mobile development club (of which I am the only windows dev). We have a few phones, ipods, android devices, tablets etc. We also have other resources (server) that would come in handy for an online level storage system.

I don't have access to WP7 though. I'm sure I could get one for testing though if I really needed it. It is not much of a market atm (no offense), but its sort of gone/going the way of the Zune so I have no interest in spending a lot of time/money buying a device to make this for it. However, if possible a WP7 version will be released.

Another Note:
As I have said, I am working on the main functionality. A lot of the stuff that will control what happens, but will not really be seen. This includes an attempted port of Box2D (physics) to the Zune. Not sure how far I will go with this or not. However, the engine is open to anyone. just send me an email.

As such, a few minor projects may be released to test the engine. These will likely be open source and skeleton projects. A little extra elbow grease would really make these projects look... well... shiny. As such, if you see a project that I release and you like, please make it awesome.

One more thing. Can someone fix the transparency on the smiley face? The white is dang annoying.
