Default [SOLVED] 80 GB Error 5

I have a Zune 80 GB showing the dreaded error 5 message.

1.) I have tried all the button mashing, (several times) draining the battery, etc.

2.) I do not have a warranty, and I don't want to send it off.

I am capable enough to fix it, I guess my question is, is there any way at all to remedy this at home?
Could I take it apart? From what I gather it is a bad hard drive, or maybe the ribbon cables?
The most recent posts about this are from 07-08. We are well into 2011, so I am sure that someone somewhere has figured something out by now.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have no warranty, you're screwed. Error 5 is a self-diagnosed hardware failure.
either get it repaired or get a new one. That's all you can do.
I'm gonna solve and lock this.
Send me a PM if you want it reopened.
