I'm dying of anticipation!!! Do you have a test version out? I didn't see a link.

Hahaha. It is still a preview, and I haven't gotten the latest build up as a download on the code site. Besides that, the control scheme is completely different now, and hasn't been applied to the game menu.

Unfortunately, we're getting ready to sell our house, and I don't have much time for this ATM. Just a couple of weeks and I should be able to get back on it and finish it up.

Now, if only I could figure out a way to be able to submit this to MS and get it as an official app. I don't know what their policy would be on a C++ project, instead of XNA...

EDIT: Alright, guys, I just had an idea flash, and I'm wondering what you might be thinking:

Instead of a joystick, how about a track pad? A track pad would be much easier to manage, and it has no center. As long as you stop touching it/moving your thumb on it, the ship would stop moving. And, of course, the movement would be scaled.

The joystick was a good idea, but it's a bigger code hog, and a little more unruly to deal with. The menus would be much easier to navigate, as well.

Hmmm...
Would it be possible to make the entire screen a trackpad? Wherever you press your finger your ship flies there?

Hehe, I think that would be great! I'm not completely sure what Microsoft's stance on OpenZDK apps is, but I'm pretty sure they wouln't welcome one with open arms.
Then again, they do have an extreme lack of apps in their HD marketplace, and it would be good press for them to include an OpenZDK app or two.
Who knows?

There are two problems I could see with such an arrangement. First off, it would be like the iPhone version (yes that in itself is a bad thing but that's not what I'm talking aobut) in that your finger would block part of the screen and enemies frequently come up from behind you.

The second problem would be that the movements would be erratic, and tracking movement according to touch (which would basically mean emulating a mouse function) would be hard. A trackpad on the side is actually closer in function to a mouse than point-and-fly would be.

Ah okay. I see your point.
It actually makes a lot more sense now that I think about it more.
Go for it.

Sorry, I know it was a few links down the line... But you would have gotten there eventually if you'd followed the alpha thread link...
