Default Microsoft points being replaced with $, would affect Zune

Rumor has it that Microsoft is replacing Microsoft Points with real currency (for Zune, Xbox, etc), by the end of 2012. This means we could get a software update/firmware updates in the near future, and if not perhaps it will tell us what the future holds for our Zunes.

While it's just a rumor and doesn't confirm anything, it comes from a generally reputable source, and I wanted to weigh in what you guys think will happen.

Please learn to spell, and he's not saying that the Zune will suddenly spring back to life, but whether or not they release an firmware update for the zune to cope with the new system will prove whether they have truly given up on the Zune line

I thought it was clear I wasn't expecting a surprise rebirth of Zune (which is still alive and kicking in the first place). It's pretty obvious the marketplace section of the ZHD firmware is only programmed to support Microsoft points, so if Microsoft wanted to keep supporting the Zune HD after a currency change, it would be in their best interest to update the firmware. (personally I wouldn't buy music through the firmware when I can buy it through the software on my computer, but I'm sure many people find it more convenient)
