ive organised the hell out of my collection and checked all tags but a lot of stuff dont show up!
any ideas???
those with the faded logo are not linked to the zune marketplace. right click the album in the album view of zune software and 'find album info.' pick the right album from the choices and you'll be all set.

Default I hate the zune software!

This forum says it all for me about why the Zune software is horrible! I too am OCD when it comes to my music, and the dir's, tree's, genres, etc. However, I am not concerned about tags or the information they contain, I know what I'm listening too, I know when it was made, I know the artist, etc. This is why I have my music arranged in the fashion I do, which is by the decade, 60's, 70's, 80's etc. Then by artist, and of course album or song. I own a 4gb Sansa Clip along with my 30gb 1st gen Zune, and the clip, as with most players I think, allows me to simply recreate my music tree as I desire, but with the zune software being totaly proprietary in nature, I must tag every single file before I can load it the way I want, and even then it's problematic. I love my Zune, but I did get it for free by playing games on the Bing search engine, I would never buy an MP3 device that does not allow you to treat it as a hard drive. As an addendum I use TagScanner & FileRenamer for my tagging and editing of music files. I know a lot of programs are mentioned in this thread, but these are the ones I like after trying a few such as MP3Tag. Both are free by the way, might want to give them a try as you'll certainly be busy tagging files if you own a Zune. hehe BTW, thanks for all the great info on this board, it certainly makes things easier, but Microsoft could have made it easier in the first place by allowing you to use the hard drive in your device, AS A HARD DRIVE? lol

1) The library, or collection concept used by zune and zune software is an implementation of relational database structure, which allows the user to sort, view, organize etc. by any field in the database structure. This is the current state of the art, which is why MS adopted in it zune, and windows 7, etc. The disadvantage of organization by file and folder structure is that it is fixed. If you decide you prefer a different schema for viewing your data (or playing and organizing your music in this case) you have to manually reorganize your database structure. Don't fall into the trap that whatever your preference is today indicates that's what you will want tomorrow, next week, next year, etc.
2) All the major media player apps and devices use the same metadata standard (ID3v2.3)... and they have to, or MP3 downloads and rips would become useless when you upgrade your PC, buy a new and different MP3, etc.
3) All this is besides the point though... if you want to access your zune hard drive using an OS file system, you eliminate the ability for MS to do things like sandboxing the zune pass DRM. Violate that, and the ability to get a record label to license tracks for subscription disappears rather quickly. Your choice though... plenty of devices do allow this (just don't expect to see sophisticated features like the zune pass implemented unless or until the devices get enough horsepower to perform like current PCs.)

for the most part, I haven't had problems with my albums/artists being out of order, except for the 50 or so songs labeled under unknown artist...
